The Instagram Glow-Up Audit

A quick snapshot of where your Instagram profile stands today, before we build it out together.

We cover every element in this audit in depth inside the course. This isn't about fixing everything right now. It's a simple exercise to get a clear sense of where your Instagram profile is today.

Answer honestly, and leave any section blank if you're not sure. We'll walk through all of it together during the program.

Step One

Take a "before" screenshot

Pull up your profile on your phone and take a full screenshot. Save it somewhere you won't lose it. This is your baseline, so you can see how far you've come after the course.

Step Two

The 3-second test

Open your Instagram profile. Someone landing on your page for the first time should be able to answer these three questions instantly. Note where you're falling short so you know what to prioritize.

Can someone tell what you do in 3 seconds?
Can they tell WHO your content is for?
Is there a clear next step (link, CTA, DM prompt)?
If you answered "not really" to any of these, that's okay. That's exactly what this audit is for. Make a mental note of which ones felt weakest so you know where to focus when the course kicks off.

Step Three

Profile photo audit

Your profile photo is a thumbnail, it needs to read clearly at tiny sizes across every surface Instagram puts it on. Answer honestly so you know what you might want to update.

Is your profile photo a clear headshot or recognizable logo?
No group photos, no sunglasses, nothing busy.
Is it readable at any thumbnail size?
Pinch-zoom out on your profile. Can you still tell what it is?
Does it match your brand aesthetic?
Warm tones, neutral background, consistent with your feed vibe.

Step Four

Your bio

Start by capturing your bio exactly as it appears today. This is your "before," so keep it for your records.

Paste your current bio, as is
Copy it word for word from your profile. Don't edit or improve it yet.

In the course, we'll walk through 3 high-converting bio formulas: Authority, Transformation, and Signature Style.

Step Five

Audit your highlights

Highlights help your audience find exactly what they're looking for, and they're your best tool for directing people to specific lead magnets or offers. Think of them as navigation.

How many highlights do you currently have?
Around 4 is the sweet spot. Too few looks abandoned, too many looks cluttered.
Are your covers consistent and branded?
Canva has free templates in your brand colors.
Are your names clear, not vague?
"Boards," "Tutorials," "Events," not "misc" or "stuff."
Highlight categories worth considering: Boards · Tutorials · Behind the Scenes · Events · Press · Shop

Step Six

Audit your link in bio

Your link is your only clickable asset on Instagram, so it needs to work hard. The most common mistake is a dead Etsy shop, an abandoned blog, or no link at all.

Does your link go somewhere active and relevant?
Not a site you forgot about in 2022.
Is your top priority featured first?
Is it capturing emails or selling your offer?
Is there more than one link in your bio?
Instagram gives you one link slot. A Linktree, Beacons, or bio site lets you hold multiple links inside it.

Step Seven

Map out your pinned posts

Pinned posts are prime real estate on your profile. Think through what purpose each pin could serve: your highest-performing content, a post that shows your signature style, a lead magnet CTA, a press feature, or anything else that makes someone want to follow. Brainstorm a few options below.

01
Highest-performing post
02
Signature style post
03
Lead magnet / CTA post
Other pin ideas worth considering: a press feature, a viral moment that still gets engagement, a board that represents a current seasonal focus, or a post that directly answers the #1 question your audience asks.
